The Bee's Last Buzz

Cameron (as Barfee) and Phillipa (Olive)

Exquisite voice of Phillipa as Olive

Closing performance of the Youth Cast version of Spelling Bee.  I can't believe it's over.  WONDERFUL experience!
Emma (as Olive's mom) and Javier (Olive's dad) sing
"The I Love You Song."

Birthday Beauty

Justice's mom, Cindi, Helps her light 17 candles on her birthday cake at Michael's Table tonight.  She was not happy with the balloons (behind her head) I brought in to the restaurant, but my attitude was, "Too bad!"  We all enjoyed the pentultimate performance of Spelling Bee after the birthday dinner.

Hidden

On my walk yesterday, I caught this enormous bird flying across my peripheral vision. He landed deep in the thick tangle of branches.  Good camouflage!  There seem to be a lot of these barred owls in the neighbourhood.

Unexpected

In my doctor's office today, this great colour combination caught my eye, along with the shadow cast by the translucent leaves of the plant.

Montezuma North

Went for a walk on Otty Lake after lunch at a friend's and came across a gallery of ice sculptures, including this giant triangular wall of ice.

Saturday Sunset

Caught this in my rear-view mirror on the way home from today's matinee.  Pulled over onto the shoulder, jumped out and snapped.  A moment later it was gone.

Two for Two

To my legions of followers, my apologies for missing the last two days of posts!  "Spelling Bee" opened Thursday night and I've been in a whirlwind of activity.  So today here are two beauties.  Above, Olive and Rona in a scene from the Youth cast version of the show which opens at 2:00 today at Perth's Studio Theatre.  The kids are amazing!
Here is our poor woebegone Itzy (he has a cold - sniff) who finished the 1500 piece puzzle last night and is holding up the next challenge: a 1000-piece cat.  (Our cat hisses at him no matter how hard he tries to play with her - haha!)

Hoot

Today when I went out for my walk, I took my new Sony point and shoot.  I used to never go anywhere without a camera but was finding my Rebel Ti3 too cumbersome to take all over the place and I missed a lot of really great shots in the last year. So today I caught sight of this gigantic owl in a tree along the Tay.  He twisted his head around to have a look at me, then flew away.

Good-bye

Trish Mahoney, the Comfort Counsellor, and Schwarzy sing the Good-bye song at tonight's adult cast dress rehearsal.  So good...

Talent Galore!

My beautiful cast - well, two casts - of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.  Such a super bunch of talented performers.  Much satisfaction from this project.  Opening Valentine's Day - we are READY!

Star Connections

Last night at their last home game, Carleton U. honoured it's graduating players.  Pictured are Coach Taffe Charles with star point guard Aly Bush and her parents Sue and Paul.  I coached Aly's older sister, Katie, years ago as an Ottawa Shooting Star.  Aly also played with the Stars and was eventually recruited by CU because Charles's wife was Aly's club coach. Paul Bush's uncle is John Holgate who I taught with at Broadview. Aly is quite the wonderful young lady, child of wonderful parents.
Connections!

Contrasts

Continuing with the Camera Club theme of shadow.  The heron looks out at the snowy balcony but the sunlight throws its shadow back against the warm wooden floor.

SNOW!

Well, the story today is snow, snow and more snow!  This taken from my open garage after I escaped into it.  Impossible to tell from this photo but I came into the driveway through drifts above the tops of my SUV tires!  It had been plowed out early this morning.  Sure hope the guy comes back tonight!  Scary drive home from the theatre - couldn't tell where the road began or ended.

Make-up Shot and More Shadows

Not for love nor money would I normally post a shot of myself, but this one makes up for missing yesterday and illustrates how I'm occupying myself these days: making cinder block walls from sponge and paint.  Taken by my Stage Manager and Assistant Director, Joan.  She told me I had to look happy.

I'm getting to be quite fond of the look of buildings lit up at night and the light play created .  This particular one is located right across the street from me - on the hahway.

Clear as Glass (til Tonight)

Okay, so it's not the Rideau Canal, but it is a natural skating surface: a small section of the Tay River at Last Duel Park.  As I stopped the car to take the photo, all eyes of the crew who had been working on it looked my way.  Did they suppose I was spying on their rink maintenance secrets?

Shadow Effect

Starting to look for the shadows - oooh, they're everywhere!  Hiding in corners, lurking up the wall - beware the shadows, beware them all!

Woe Is Me!

In "Woe is Me!" poor little Logainne Schwartzandgrubenierre (Meaghan Brackenbury), daughter of two gay dads (Damien Rice-Laprise and Itzy Kamil), laments that her birth mother can't see her now.  She's so stressed by her stress, she just wants to up and vomit.  Olive (Phillipa MacDonald) and Marcy (Keegan Carr) look on.
From Studio Theatre's production of "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee."

Opposites

I could only capture 12 of the countless identical tanker cars as the train sped into Perth while I was speeding down Hwy. 43 in the opposite direction.  Not a bad result for out the window of a moving vehicle with my new "wee" Fujifilm camera.  Tomorrow I'm off to Henry's in Ottawa to learn how to operate it.

Jaron Freeman-Fox with his band, The Opposite of Everything. Exceptionally fine musicians and exciting, unique music in the little town of Perth this evening.

My Vice (well, one anyway)

1500 piece jigsaw puzzle - it's been on the dining room table for weeks now so I haven't invited anyone for a meal - lol. It's so exquisitely beautiful, I'll be sorry when I finish it - admittedly with Itzy's help.
